Product Review: Speick Shaving Cream

It’s pretty great.
Quick context: I am not a fan of lathery shaves; I wanted something that was all natural; it needed to be carry-on safe.
Believe it or not, it’s difficult to find a shaving cream that fits the above criteria at your local Target. So, I widened my search to Amazon, and found Speick. Bottom line, I’m very happy, and will continue using Speick.
At $6.50, plus shipping if you’re not a Prime member (which you ought to be), it’s not the cheapest. However, the benefits are worth the price. I had been using some generic brand that cost around $5.00. So, an extra $1.50 for a natural product, that is carry-on safe is a steal.
Natural
This was a big factor in my search. I’ve been trying to switch to all natural products where possible. I just feel better about doing so, not a judgement.
Speick is 100% natural and contains beeswax, lavender, calendula, and the speick plant. It’s this plant that makes Speick Shave Cream so great, I think. The scent is distinct, masculine, and not overpowering.
Lathery, But Not Too
I prefer an actual cream, to a lather when I shave. So, I was skeptical about other reviews that mentioned a little dab would keep foaming. To my delight, Speick foams just perfectly to suit my tastes. While not the consistency of a cream, it’s foamy enough to create a smooth glide while shaving, but thin enough that I can see what’s going on and avoid the Papa Smurf lathered beard look.
Indeed, a small amount, about the size of a large pea, does the trick. And it will continue to foam once on your face.
One advantage to this just foamy enough consistency is that it washes off cleanly. No left overs underneath your ear lobes or nose.
Carry-On Safe
With a good amount of travel on my horizon, this was the big selling point for me. I’m really amazed at how difficult it is to find a carry-on safe shave cream. Weighing in at 2.5oz, you will have no trouble getting a tube of Speick through your checkpoint.
I was skeptical that 2.5oz would not last. I’ve been using the tube in the picture for a week now, and have a long way to go before it is empty (I shave 5-7 times a week).
Final Thoughts
Speick is probably best used with a brush and lather dish, but not required. I don’t like to use a brush/dish approach, I just rub it on my face. However, after, my hands feel a little too clean. It’s tough to describe. It’s not a big enough deal for me to discontinue use, but it has taken some getting used to.
I use a double edge safety razor, and suggest you use one as well. Those multi-blade razors are downright ridiculous. The combo of Speick, and my Merkur is the best shave I’ve ever had.
If you are in the market for a new shave cream, definitely give Speick a shot. I think you will really enjoy it.
